PENDLE Council is asking people to look out for their new refuse and recycling calendar landing on their doormats.

Coun. James Starkie, who represents Operational Services in Pendle, said: “We’re delivering calendars to all 39,000 households in Pendle.

“Packed full of information about when refuse and recycling collection days are, it’s a handy reference guide to keep at home.

“As we’ve recently changed our paper and cardboard collections, making it easier for residents to recycle them together, the guide contains information about how residents can put out their recycling.

“There’s a reminder of what goes in which container and useful tips on how to recycle.

“Please keep your recycling calendar somewhere safe so you can refer back to it over the next year.”

The front cover of the calendar features Hassan Hussain from Nelson. At just 16 months old, he already does his bit to help the family recycle.

Hassan’s mum, Farzana Afsar, said: “I’m excited about seeing the leaflet with Hassan’s photo dropping on to my doormat. My family and friends are all looking out for it too. I don’t know what Hassan will make of it though!”

The recycling calendar also tells you if you can expect a change to your collection day over the Christmas and New Year period.

Even though Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall over weekends this year, 60% of Pendle households’ refuse and recycling will be collected two or three days later than normal due to statutory holidays.

More details will be released nearer the time.

The leaflet also gives the dates in January when Pendle Council will be collecting real Christmas trees for recycling.

Carole Taylor, Pendle Council’s Waste and Recycling Co-ordinator, said: “Already Pendle people recycle 38% of their waste.

“With a target of recycling 56% by 2015, we’ve still got some way to go.

“But the recent changes we’ve introduced to our paper and cardboard recycling go some way towards helping us meet that target.

“Please keep up the good work and recycle more for Pendle.”
