I AM writing with concerns about the block improvement schemes that have been carried out in Nelson recently.
This seems to have been a great incentive to the owners of these properties to sell. This is not surprising, as the value of the properties has probably been raised considerably at little cost to the owners.
I object in principle to the scheme as a whole and can think of many better ways to spend taxpayers’ money.
It was always accepted that if you bought a house the responsibility for its upkeep was yours and if you let it deteriorate, that was your loss and not a reason for the council to step in and pay to upgrade your property.
