Once again, I’d like to call on your readers to put forward suggestions for the local issues and services they think Pendle Council should put under the microscope.
If there is something they think the council could do better, we want to hear about it so we can look into it in 2011/12.
We want to make sure we look at some of the issues that matter most to people in Pendle. That’s why we ask, through your letters page, for their suggestions.
In the past year or so, scrutiny studies have looked into a range of issues that affect all sorts of people.
Scrutiny work has, for example, resulted in reintroducing a dedicated team of enforcement officers who will clamp down on litter and dog fouling.
It has brought agreement that, with the assistance of Brierfield Town Council, access to the payments office at Brierfield Town Hall will be improved to help people with disabilities.
It has also resulted in the introduction of a trial community toilet scheme in Nelson town centre. Under the scheme, the ACE Centre, Morrison’s and the Admiral’s Market will all make their toilet facilities available to the public without any obligation to buy goods or services. If this is successful, it could lead to further schemes introduced in other parts of Pendle.
The Scrutiny Team is currently looking at levels of customer service when people telephone the council. We want to know if there is any room for improvement.
If your readers would like to suggest a topic for consideration by the team, there’s a range of ways to do it:
Pick up a form from Pendle Council reception areas.
Complete an online form at www.pendle.gov.uk/scrutinyrequest
Or call the Scrutiny Manager on 661607.
People should send us their suggestions as soon as possible, and no later than Friday, February 25th.
I’d like to thank people in advance for their valuable input. I look forward to hearing from them.
COUN. TONY BECKETT
Chairman, Scrutiny Management Team
