We can always count on your readers to put forward suggestions for the local issues and services they think Pendle Council should look at in detail through our scrutiny work programme.
So once again, I’d like to ask everyone in Pendle to tell us where they think we should be concentrating our scrutiny work on during 2012/13.
We want to make sure that over the next year, we continue to look at some of the issues that matter most to people in Pendle. This is their opportunity to tell us if there is something they think the council could do better, or if there is room for improvement in other local services.
In the past year or so, scrutiny studies have looked into a range of issues that affect all sorts of people in Pendle.
The recent review of Pendle Leisure Trust’s sporting facilities, for example, will see the scheduling of a phased programme of refurbishment and replacement of changing and showering facilities at each of the three major sports centres.
Other scrutiny work is ensuring the council will be consulted on plans for major changes in the NHS, most notably at Pendle Community Hospital, and in the way health services are commissioned.
The Scrutiny Team is also pursuing issues around monitoring standards of care for vulnerable elderly people in local care homes.
And the successful community toilet scheme in Nelson town centre which resulted from an earlier scrutiny review may now be rolled out to other parts of Pendle.
If your readers would like to suggest a topic for consideration by the Scrutiny Management Team, there’s a range of ways to do it:
Pick up a form from Pendle Council reception areas.
Complete an online form at www.pendle.gov.uk/scrutinyrequest
Or call the Scrutiny Manager on 661607.
Pendle people should send us their suggestions as soon as possible, and no later than February 29th.
I’d like to thank people in advance for their valuable input. I look forward to hearing from them.
COUN. GRAHAM ROACH
Chairman of the Scrutiny Management Team
