Have your say

Re a letter from Mrs K. Fuller. This lady is claiming not to understand the negativity I gave towards the new urgent care centre in my letter. I can well understand the statement coming from someone who doesn’t seem to understand the difference between negativity and fact.

I would point out Mrs Fuller makes no contradiction to the facts as I stated them. She can’t, because every one is true so she says my letter is negative but, and it’s a big but, she fails to indicate I am actually praising the unit.

She then makes an attempt to spin statements made by Mr Birtwistle in the past ie he always said he would never stop fighting until the A&E Unit is restored to BGH. A couple of weeks ago, he admitted he had failed but now is saying he has always fought for the building of the urgent care centre. I said which one is the truth because you can’t have it both ways.

Mrs Fuller then fell back on the outdated and not-strictly-true spin on the politics of the matter. However, she says Mr Birtwistle has done more for Burnley than any other previous MP, so let’s have a look. He voted for the increase in VAT. Did that help the people of Burnley? No. He voted strongly in favour of the trebling of tuition fees. Did this help the people of Burnley? No. He voted strongly in favour of the bedroom tax. Did this help the people of Burnley?

He is claiming he and his fellow Lib-Dems delivered the said unit. Like I said in my previous letter, I am no way claiming he didn’t have some input into the lobbying of ministers for the funding but I’m afraid the statement to the house by the then Minister for Health is good enough for me and in it there is no mention of Gordon Birtwistle.
