Barons tournament up and running
THE first weekend of the fourth annual Barnoldswick Barons Summer Tournament managed to beat the weather.
It rained, hailstoned and rained again, but the standard of football in the six-a-side competition was excellent.
On Saturday, the Under 7s, 9s, 11s and 12s girls were in action, with 41 teams competing on the day, the most the tournament has seen.
Clitheroe Wolves Under 7s, Halifax Raiders Under 9s, Colne FC Under 11s and Burnley Girls Under 12s won their respective sections, all winning tight finals 1-0.
On Sunday, the Under 8s and Under 10s had their turn, with the Under 8s Beau Monde Competition won by Westbury Wanderers, who beat Skipton LMS 1-0.
The U10s' event was won by Trawden Celtic in a dramatic final, beating Barnoldswick Town 3-2 on penalties.
This weekend sees the club's 11-a-side tournament with Under 12s, 13s, 14s and 15s taking to the field.
