PARK High School pupil Bethany Widdup has just returned from training with the English Schools' Ski Association Junior Squad in Pitztal, Austria.
The 12-year-old was one of 13 girls selected from across the country, after entering the English Schools' Ski Championship races.

She successfully came through the heats at the Pendle Ski Slope in September, and then won through to the finals in Stoke in October.

Bethany's training involves both slalom and giant slalom development, with a view to being selected to represent England in the International Schools' Sports Federation Races World Championships.

Having first taken to the slopes aged four, talented Bethany has represented the North-West team, and competes regularly on a national level in the dry ski slope summer races.

As well as being a member of Pendle Ski Club's race team, where she trains weekly, Bethany also attends Chill Factor e in Manchester at least once a month.

She hopes to compete in some snow races abroad next season and is actively seeking support from local businesses to help fund the costs of training, equipment and travel.

Her next race with her school team-mates is the North West School Championships at Pendle at the end of this month.
