Five medal haul for Colne Swim Club

COLNE Amateur Swimming Club raced to five medals in the 2008 Central Lancashire Championships at Manchester Aquatics Centre.
No fewer than 40 personal best times were recorded, while two gold medals, a silver and a bronze were won by one special nine-year-old at the club.

Ashleigh Dibb led the way with victory in the 50m breaststroke and backstroke, second in the 50m butterfly and third in the 50m freestyle, with three personal best times. She also finished 50th in the 200m open individual medley.

In the same age group, Samantha Titterton finished eighth in the 50m breaststroke, 56th in the 200m open individual medley, sixth in the 50m backstroke and fifth in the 50m butterfly, all in personal best times, with more following from Jonathan Beech in the 50m breaststroke (12th) and 50m freestyle (7th).

Colne's second bronze medal came from 13-year-old Chris Bates in the 50m backstroke, adding sixth in the 50m breaststroke and freestyle events, all in personal best times.

In the same age group, Alexander Berry was ninth in the 50m breaststroke, eighth in the 50m freestyle and seventh in the 50m backstroke and butterfly events.

Charlotte Beech added fourth and 10th-place finishes in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

The 11-year-olds' age group saw Jack Coyne finished 22nd in the 50m breaststroke, 15th in the 50m freestyle, 43rd in the 200m open individual medley, 16th in the 50m backstroke and eighth in the 50m butterfly, all in personal best times.

Charlotte Titterton was 16th in the 50m breaststroke and freestyle events, 55th in the 200m open individual medley, 23rd in the 50m breaststroke and 21st in the 50m butterfly, again all in PBs.

And Olivia Pratt completed the group with 23rd in the 50m breaststroke, 21st in the 50m freestyle, 51st in the 200m open individual medley and 18th in the 50m backstroke and butterfly events all in new best times.

Ainsley Dibb took on the 12-year-olds' age group on her own with 16th in the 50m breaststroke, 12th in the 50m freestyle, 54th in the 200m open individual medley, 17th in the 50m backstroke and 21st in the 50m butterfly, with three personal bests.

Bethany Gribble was 12th in the 14-year-olds' 50m freestyle, 10th in the 50m backstroke, 53rd in the 100m backstroke and 61st in the 100m open freestyle.

And the open age group wasn't short of success either, as Jack Workman finished fifth in the 100m backstroke, seventh in the 100m breaststroke and eighth in the 100m backstroke.

And Rebecca Barry finished 45th in the 100m backstroke, 46th in the 100m breaststroke and 59th in the 100m freestyle, all in personal best times.
