NELSON Under 13s lifted the prestigious R and T Tours Fleetwood Cup in Blackpool last weekend.
However, they only just managed to squeeze over the line, overcoming Manchester side Walshaw in the final on penalties.

After fighting through two days of group action, the locals played out a goal-less draw with Walshaw, before eventually triumphing 4-3 from the spot.

And for the second year running in major tournaments, Nelson also lifted the Fair Play Trophy.

All that came after a disastrous start saw the locals lose their first two matches, in an event contested by sides from across the United Kingdom.

The pressure was on to qualify, but victory in their final game on the first day, and three wins on day two saw them through.
