NELSON came within touching distance of opening the new Lancashire League season with a win.
The Seedhillites restricted champions Rishton to 119-9 from their allotted overs, and looked on couyrse for the points thanks to Craig McMillan and Danny Kegg.

But needing five for victory, Thomas Lord was removed off the first ball of the final over, before Khurram Naxir hit the final delivery for a single to seal a thrilling tie.

However, Colne slumped to an opening day defeat as they were comprehensively beaten by Rawtenstall by nine wickets.

Colin Varley crafted his maiden seniot half century, amassing exactly 50, as Colne made 132-9 in their 32 overs.

However, Rawtenstall skipper Andrew Payne smashed an unbeaten 71, with 14 boundaries, adding 78 with Chris Cook-Martin (43) to see last year's runners-up home with almost 10 overs to spare.
