Victory for father and son duo
FATHER and son George and Mark Andrews from Stoneyholme won the final of the George Kay Doubles at Ighten Mount on Sunday.
In extremely windy conditions, the champions blew away all opposition to take the trophy for the first time, beating Brian Yerkess and David Burns from Rishton Free Gardeners 21-10, after leading 7-3, 12-6 and 18-9.
In the semi-finals, they beat Billy Gaskell and Chris Smith from Greenhill 21-17, and Yerkess and Burns comfortably beat Stuart Gall and Garry Stevenson from Oswaldtwistle Conservative Club 21-10.
Losing quarter-finalists were A. Walsh and R. Lee, K. Topham and A. Fitzgerald, L. Gowers and R. Hinton, and R. Fletcher and J. Chew.
The league thanks Ighten Mount for the use of the green, and Lowerhouse, St Andrew's, Queens and Briercliffe for staging the qualifying rounds.
