The Clarets left back missed the last two games of pre-season with a hamstring issue, with Danny Lafferty filling in.

Jon Flanagan, on loan from Liverpool for the season, could also play left back, but needs to top up his fitness after missing game time on the Reds' tour of the US to decide on a move to Turf Moor.

Striker Ashley Barnes won't make the game with the Swans as he recovers from a hamstring problem suffered against Bradford City three weeks ago.

Dyche said on Ward: "He's had a good week. We felt last week he was in good shape, he's had a good few days training, so we have high expectations of him being fit."

Flanagan is physically fit, but needs more work on the training ground: “He’s fit, certainly, it is just the sharpness because he didn’t go away with Liverpool and I think he only had three 45 minutes with them before he got here so that is not enough to go into a PL season.

“So it is just topping him up, really and getting him some game time.

“There is no line on it but it won’t be weeks and weeks because he is generally in good shape for sure.”

And on Barnes, he added: "Barnesy is doing ever so well, he won't figure yet, I'm pretty sure not this weekend, but he's doing really well and in front of where we thought he might be."
