BURNLEY has been shortlisted for the Perform Best Marketing Campaign at the Football League Awards 2012.

Burnley will come up against five other Football League clubs for the Award, having made the final shortlist following judging by a panel of industry experts.

Entitled ‘Bringing the Boys to You’, Burnley developed a social media campaign to highlight how a consumer could get extra content through a subscription to the premium content on the Burnley website. This was done through amusing video virals with Burnley squad members turning up in fan’s homes.

When assessing the category, judges looked at the clubs that had best demonstrated results through the use of an innovative marketing campaign that engaged with their target audience.

Full shortlist includes: Burnley, Cardiff City, Hartlepool United, Huddersfield Town, Hull City and Walsall

The 2011 Best Marketing Campaign winner was Reading who developed an innovative scheme to encourage female support in its ground.

David Malkinson, Head of Marketing at The Football League, said: “League clubs are continually developing innovative and effective marketing campaigns to engage with fans and attract more to their grounds.  The shortlist for the Award this year is made up of extremely strong examples of marketing campaigns which provide a benchmark for any future activity for all League clubs.”

This year’s Football League Awards sees a total of 17 awards with the winners being announced at the gala ceremony at The Brewery, London on Sunday 11th March 2012.
