Danny Lafferty receives Northern Ireland call-up

INTERNATIONAL CALL: Danny Lafferty

INTERNATIONAL CALL: Danny Lafferty

CLARETS’ full-back Danny Lafferty has won his first call-up to the senior Northern Ireland squad.

Lafferty is joined in the Irish squad to face Euro 2012 finalists Holland in Amsterdam on Saturday, 2 June by Turf Moor team-mate Michael Duff.

Lafferty has previously been capped at under-21 level but earns his elevation to the senior party following his move to Burnley in January.

The former Derry City left-back, 23, has since started five times in the Championship for Eddie Howe’s side and earns his place in a 22-man squad to face the Dutch in the Amsterdam Arena as part of the Netherlands’ preparations for the European Championship finals.

Duff retains his place in Michael O’Neill’s squad after making his international return in February.

The long-serving Burnley defender ended a four-year absence in a friendly against Norway and could now win his 24th-cap against the Dutch.
