Colne suffered their second defeat in four days, losing out 2-1 at Winsford United on Tuesday night.

The Reds took the lead after 14 minutes when Nathan Bond forced his way past defenders before firing a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.

And Colne were given another boost after 22 minutes when Winsford were reduced to 10 men as Jake Hibbs was shown a straight red card for a two-footed challenge on Chris Anderson.

The game was end-to-end in an open first half with Colne building some good attacks but unable to find a decisive finish and Winsford looking dangerous on the break with Sam Marshall a constant threat to the Reds defence.

In the second half, Colne came close on several occasions. After 57 minutes Brandon Barski broke clear on the left and his cross brought a firm header from Bond but Winsford keeper Andrew Jones made a fine save. And after 65 minutes, Bond’s low cross found Barski in the area but his first time shot hit Jones and rebounded to safety.

But at the other end, Chris Thompson made a spectacular one-handed save to keep out a goal bound shot. And after 72 minutes, Dennis Sherriff made a strong run through the middle and found the net with a low shot in off the far post to level the scores at 1-1.

The home side were lifted by the goal and three minutes later Osebi Abadaki opened up the Reds’ defence, and his low cross was turned in by Jonathan Jones to give Winsford the lead.

AFC Liverpool 4 Colne 2

Colne came out on the wrong end of a six-goal thriller after a dramatic second half against AFC Liverpool on Saturday.

Neither side were able to break the deadlock in the first half. But five minutes after the interval, Liverpool took the lead from the penalty spot when John Lawless converted after being tripped in the area.

Two minutes later, Colne were on level terms when Tom Berwick blasted an unstoppable free kick from 25 yards past the helpless keeper.

Liverpool regained their lead on the hour when Lawless curled a free kick round the wall and into the top corner.

And on 67 minutes, Ryan Cox scored Liverpool’s third goal with a lob over Chris Thompson.

Bond reduced the deficit with a glancing header from Alex Grice’s cross after 73 minutes, but Josh Purcell got a fourth goal for Liverpool with a shot in off the post after 82 minutes.

Colne host Bootle tomorrow and Bacup on Wednesday night.
