While disappointed not to claim his first senior hat-trick, Danny Ings was delighted to add another two goals to his tally.

Ings scored twice against Millwall on Saturday, either side of missing a penalty.

But he was pleased he didn’t dwell on Stephen Bywater’s spot kick save: “I was disappointed I didn’t get three, but that’s football, and to bounce back after the penalty and get another goal was really big for me.

“It’s important you do that, if you miss a penalty, it happens, it’s how you bounce back and I managed to clear it out of my mind and carry on.”

Ings and strike partner Sam Vokes have shared responsibility for penalties this season, and he admitted: “We do have a little deal, if I win the penalty I have it, but if anyone else wins it, he can have it.

“I was disappointed it didn’t go in, but it can happen.

“The last time I missed one was in the play-off semi final first leg for Bournemouth against Huddersfield two years ago.

“It was the same corner actually and a similar save, it was a good save.”

Kieran Trippier had a hand in both Ings’ goals, and he admits he relishes the right back’s raids and wicked crosses: “Both balls in were equally as good, the first one he used the wind to guide it into me and I could use my body to spin the defender and get my shot off.

“The second one he used the wind to clip the ball over the top and straight to my feet.

“It doesn’t surprise me, he’s the best right back in the league, he stands out a mile for me, he’s fantastic.”

After three draws, a win was welcome, but Ings insisted: “We knew it was coming, we’d been playing very well in the last few games and we knew that someone was going to get beat good soon. It could have been four or five.”
