Barnoldswick Town slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Bootle at the Silentnight Stadium on Saturday.

Town had taken the lead four minutes before half-time through Lewis Mayers.

But the visitors fought back to win with two goals in seven minutes in the final quarter of the game.

Connor Millington levelled matters on 68 minutes, before Lennon Whewell scored what proved to be the winner with 15 minutes remaining.

It was another frustrating afternoon for a Town side, who have seen their good start to the season fade.

It was another game where they deserved more than they got, but they finished the wrong side of the margins, with Tommy Wood, on loan from Burnley, squandering a glorious chance, missing the ball completely from two yards out, with former Barnoldswick goalkeeper Jordan Gidley – on his return to the Silentnight Stadium – prostrate after making a save.

Tomorrow Town are at City of Liverpool’s TDP Solicitors Stadium in the Hallmark Security NWCFL Premier Division, kick-off 3 p.m.

The game is a repeat of the Macron Challenge Cup Final at Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium, in which Town were beaten on penalties after the game finished 1-1 after extra time.
