Nelson’s tumultuous season comes to a close on Saturday as they host Northwich Villa at Victoria Park in the North West Counties First Division.
Following a campaign of managerial change - with Paul Paynter and duo Robert Grimes and Michael Morrison departing - new boss Mark Fell has helped get the club back on track.
Goals from Jerrome Matthews and Nick Murphy saw the Blues recover from a two-goal deficit away at Leek CSOB midweek.
At the weekend, Nelson began well on home soil as Chadderton stopper Nathan Beckett bravely smother skipper Chris Turner’s close range effort.
The Blues broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when Ben Woodhead’s long clearance was flicked on by Nat Taylor and into the path of Adam Stockdale who nonchalantly stroked the ball home to make it 1-0.
And in the closing stages of the half Tim Buxton hooked the ball off the line once Tom Anderson had beaten Beckett to the loose ball as Nelson pressed for a second.
After the break Woodhead preserved the Blues’ lead with an instinctive save with his legs before Sean Sherwood drilled wide.
Stockdale’s centre found Taylor whose shot was brilliantly beaten away by Beckett while Anderson lifted an effort over the bar.
But Mark Fell’s side paid for their profligacy in the final minute as Chadderton substitute Matt O’Keefe levelled to make it 1-1 at full-time.
