LAST Sunday, teams from all over Lancashire gathered at The Muni in Colne for the annual presentation of the North Valley Youth Football League.

The league, established in Colne in 1996 with only four teams, has become something of a success stoty and now consists of over 130 teams right from across the county!

The awards afternoon marks the achievements of the various competition winners, including league winners, runners-up, cup winners, beaten finalists, fair play awards, plus individual awards for the most outstanding goalkeeper, top goalscorer and player of the season.

Coun. Joe Cooney, who was on hand to present the awards, said: “It is fantastic to see so many young people involved in sport at a grass root level.

“Without the volunteers that run the league, and the teams, hundreds of budding footballers, both boys and girls, wouldn’t be able to play the sport they love.

“I would also like to congratulate all the winners and runners-up - it’s a magnificent achievement.”

Louise Collinson, League Chairman, added: “Each year our league grows from strength to strength which is a testament to the dedication of all involved in the league.”
