STORKS striker Paul Fildes finished what he started as Padiham claimed local bragging rights with victory over Barnoldswick Town.

Liam Garbutt went close to silencing the Arbories crowd early on when he flashed an effort across the face of goal, but Padiham found the back of the net first. Tom Bradley’s free-kick from the left found Jordan Hulme, who headed down for Fildes to fire a shot from the edge of the box which bounced up and over keeper Chris Thompson.

The visitors went close to equalising when Aaron Hollindrake led the counter attack before finding Neil Chapman, who struck wide from close range.

Two former Storks combined soon after, but Jack Overson’s header from Adam Hayton’s corner was cleared off the line, while Hollindrake’s acrobatic follow-up looped over.

At the other end Stuart Telfer picked up a snatched clearance from a corner and volleyed a superb strike towards goal which Thompson did well to tip over the bar and keep his side in it at half-time.

But Padiham made it 2-0 within a minute of the restart as Hulme headed Ed O’Neill’s centre into the ground and over Thompson.

O’Neill continued to cause problems for the visitors, and he found Lloyd Balazs who failed to find the target.

Barnoldswick forced a series of opportunities midway through the half, which culminated in Padiham keeper Sean Davis tipping a Neil Chapman effort away for a corner, and then tipping another header over.

But the points were sealed in the 83rd minute when Fildes skipped through the Barnoldswick defence before slotting the ball past Thompson.
