Sam Vokes is hoping to eclipse the goalscoring haul set alongside Danny Ings two years ago with new strike partner Andre Gray as the pair continue to fire the Clarets towards the top flight.

The duo took their combined tally to 34 for the season when helping Burnley to a vital 3-2 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage as Sean Dyche’s side extended their advantage at the Championship summit.

It’s obviously a nice target to hit and it’ll be nice to push on for that towards the end of the season!

The Welshman opened the scoring in the ninth minute, nodding Scott Arfield’s corner beyond Andy Lonergan, but the hosts hit back through Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele.

After the break Vokes restored parity from the spot when Joey Barton was upended while Gray’s thunderous drive on the hour secured the points.

The 25-year-old, who manufactured a 47-goal partnership with Liverpool striker Ings as the club secured promotion to the Premier League, said: “It’s always nice to get on the scoresheet. As strikers it’s where you want to be and me and Andre were on there tonight. It’s nice.

“It’s brilliant for us. It gives us that confidence to step on and continue.

“It’s obviously a nice target to hit and it’ll be nice to push on for that towards the end of the season.”

The Clarets have dropped just two points after scoring first this term as Sheffield Wednesday rescued a point at Hillsborough last month.

And the midweek fixture against the Cottagers was the first time this season that the Clarets have fallen behind after gaining the advantage.

Following the second half recovery against Slavisa Jokanovic’s men, Vokes said: “It was great to get the three points obviously. It was a frustrating first half after going 1-0 up.

“We felt strong but probably let our foot off the gas a little bit after that.

“To go in 2-1 down was very disappointing. After that it was all about picking ourselves up in the second half. To get the two goals in the manner that we did was great and it’s a big win for us.

“It’s a massive win considering what happened elsewhere. We’re not really looking at other people because we want to concentrate on ourselves.

“But of course you come back in to the dressing room and see what’s happened elsewhere so it’s been a good night for us all round.”

Ahead of the clash with Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium tomorrow, Vokes added: “It’s another big game. We’ve got 10 big games coming up and that is the start of the run in.

“We know it’s a tough place to go, as today was, and we’ll go there full of confidence on the back of some big results.”
