Some 42 years had passed since Martin Dobson’s fourth Three Lions cap against Yugoslavia back in 1974 with Heaton’s late debut, as an 87th-minute replacement for Fraser Forster against the Socceroos, seeing him become the latest name to join an illustrious list.
