PENDLE Forest Hawks Under 12s recently experienced all the emotions of tournament football at the Gillibrand Warriors event.
On the back of a successful season where they finished runners up in the North Valley League and runners-up in the SoccerBurnley five-a-side league, the Hawks went into their first summer tournament in confident mood.
They had six games to play in a league format, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-finals. After a mixture of results throughout the day, they progressed into the semi-finals after finishing third on goal difference.
In the semi-final the Hawks played the hosts Gillibrand Warriors and there was drama at both ends with both teams defending as if their lives depended on it. Adam Eccles made some great saves and Henry Spencer, Thomas Bradshaw and Daniel Bellamy were resolute in maintaining a clean sheet. In true tournament fashion the game went to penalties.
Eccles made a fine save to send the Hawks through to their first tournament final, which was a very tense affair against Hoole.
The Hawks defence was once again in fine form and Liam Walker put in a man-of-the-match performance.
The Hawks took the lead with another tournament goal from Ryan Clarke.
The last five minutes or so was a real test for all concerned and the Hawks true colours shone through as they secured the clean sheet required to come out victorious.
