Barnoldswick Town were last night hoping to defend a precious 1-0 advantage in the second leg of their Macron Cup semi-final at Bootle.

It was the third meeting between the sides in a week, with John Beckwith having settled last Thursday night’s first leg with a last-gasp winner, before Danny Craig’s men went down 6-1 at Bootle in the league on Tuesday night.

Beckwith was again on target, equalising midway through the first half after a Ryan Cox opener.

But Cox and Carl Peers netted in the run-up to half-time, and the hosts added further goals in the second half through Cameron Dalton, Ben Hodkinson and Michael Ordish.

That came on the back of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Barnton, where Ryan Malone scored the only goal for the hosts six minutes from half-time, capitalising on a rare slip from keeper Jordan Gidley, who had been magnificent in the win against Bootle two days earlier.

Town follow up last night’s cup tie with a home game with West Didsbury & Chorlton tomorrow.

They are at New Mills on Monday and host Runcorn Town on Wednesday.

Town’s East Lancashire League side lost 1- 0 at home to Mill Hill on Saturday, in the President’s Cup.
