Two 3-1 defeats over the week saw Barnoldswick Town’s struggles in the NWC Premier Division continue.

Stewart Airdrie’s men went down at AFC Liverpool on Saturday, before losing by the same margin at home to Squires Gate on Tuesday night.

On Tuesday, after a goal-less first half, Town took the lead as Joel Melia pulled the ball across the six-yard line for Mark Threlfall, who found the bottom left corner after 54 minutes.

The visitors equalised shortly after when Jack Sowerby’s free kick was aved by Chris Taylor, but Harry Dunn prodded in the loose ball.

Joshua Westwood put Gate ahead from a corner at the near post on 70 minutes, and with five minutes left, Dunn played Sowerby in, and he made no mistake from the edge of the penalty area.

On Saturday at AFC Liverpool, Town again went in front, just before half-time, Paul Walker bundling the ball in from a corner.

Eight minutes after the break Liverpool were level, Ryan Cox firing in from the corner of the box, before substitute Sean Calland netted twice in the last 11 minutes, curling a fine effort into the far top corner, before cracking a shot beyond Taylor.

Town hosts Stockport Sports tomorrow before a trip to AFC Blackpool on Tuesday night.
