Athletes get county call

Four outstanding Pendle Athletic Club Athletes have been selected to represent Lancashire at the English Schools’ Athletic Championships in Gateshead next week.

The ESAA National Championships are the fourth largest athletics event in the world.

Tiarnan Crorken reached the qualifying standard of 3.58 in the 1500m gaining himself a well-deserved place in the Lancashire squad.

Secondly, Leah Hillman reached the qualifying standard in the Javelin throwing 37.99m at the Lancashire Championships.

She subsequently increased her distance at the Lancashire Schools Athletics Championships and then reached a PB of 40.10m at the England Athletic U20/U23 Championships at Bedford last week.

Joe Lonsdale ran the qualifying time for the 200m at the Lancashire Championships as well as the qualifying time at 100m but he will represent his county at the longer distance.

Finally, Alex Baker, again in the Javelin, reached the qualifying standard by throwing a whopping 34.81m at the Lancashire Championships in Blackpool.

She also gained a Championship best performance for U15 girls Javelin in Blackpool and also at the Lancashire Schools Championships in Wigan.
