Colne brother and sister Ben and Hannah Wilson impressed at the St Anne’s Triathlon earlier this month.
Ben was the winner in his category - Tristar 1 - while Hannah was runner-up in the Tristar Start girls section.
The event is a British Triathlon-sanctioned event, and is one of the few in the region that allows children to compete, as the bike section is completed on closed roads, parallel to the promenade at Lytham St Anne’s.
The progression through the age-group races means that children compete at different distances, depending on their age.
Hannah, age seven and in school year 3, competed in the youngest section, which consisted of a 50m swim, a 1.5k cycle and a 600m run.
And Ben Wilson, two years older, in school year 4, completed a 150m swim, a 4k cycle and a 1.5k run.
All this is against the clock as an adult race would be, and includes transitions from the pool to the cycle and from the cycle to the run.
They both received medals for finishing, plus trophies and vouchers to spend on sporting equipment.
The event as a whole was massive, and altogether over 350 adults and 130 children completed course.
Although Ben and Hannah go to school in Rossendale, both live in Colne.
They are both involved in sport in the area and cycle regularly at the sessions at Seedhill with Cycle Sport Pendle and are members of Colne Amateur Swimming Club.
