Burnley and Pendle put in a performance to remember hwen they travelled to table topping Bury Broncos at the weekend.

The away side took the lead with an early penalty before Sam Hamer shrugged a few tackles to place the ball over the line. The try was converted by Marcus Farnworth.

On the 20 minute mark, scrum half Matt Crowley found Sam Mounsey running out wide. Mounsey out paced the covering defence to extend Burnley and Pendle’s lead to 0 -10.

This seemed to galvanise the home team who hit back strongly with a try of their own.

Burnley and Pendle’s defence was breached again shortly afterwards as the Broncos closed the gap to just two points.

With the clock running down to half time, hooker Chris Wall, put Sam Walker into a gap in the home side’s red zone.

His deft kick across the tryline for wingerSonny Bill Waddington, allowed him touch down for his first try of the campaign.

Bury Broncos started the second half strongly and only a sterling defensive effort by each and every one of the Burnley and Pendle team kept them scoreless.

A break from deep then by Matt Crowley saw him outpace the Broncos fullback to score under the posts. It was converted by Farnworth to stretch the lead to 8-20.

Taking advantage of a tiring Burnley and Pendle side, Bury hit back immediately.

Another quickly tapped penalty caught Burnley and Pendle on the back foot and saw a converted try scored to close the gap to just six.

As the pendulum was swinging back in the favour of the home side, Burnley and Pendle stemmed the tide and through some big plays marched up field to put pressure on the home team’s defence. The impressive Walker took a quick tap to power over in the corner, to celebrate his birthday with a well deserved try. Farnworth hit the crossbar with an amazing conversion attempt from the touch line and while many thought the kick was good, the referee ruled otherwise. The final whistle sounded, Burnley and Pendle coming away deserved winners 14-24.

Burnley and Pendle play on Saturday against Bamber Bridge RLFC, kicking off at 2-30pm at the Prairie Playing Fields.
