BURNLEY and Pendle gave a good account of themsleves before going down to a more experienced Bamber Bridge side in this battle for a championship play-off in the summer Rugby League Merit table.
Missing several key players the local lads were determined to have a go against a team whom they felt were more dominant in the tackles.
Burnley and Pendle certainly had pace and youth on their side and were extremely dangerous on attack failing though to hold Bamber Bridge’s powerful runners in defence.
Many lessons will be learnt from the game though with the Burnley & Pendle team, who have a large percentage of players under the age of 21, sure to mature and progress.
Shaye McCullough (one), Danny Rowland’s (two), Ben Peverley (two) and Cyhle Fisher (one) were the Burnley and Pendle try scorers. Fisher also converted five goals.
Great Britain police international Danny Rowland’s Ben Peverley, Howard Metcalf and Cyhle Fisher were outstanding for the local team while captain Ryan Mirfield led by example, pulling off 47 tackles throughout the game.
As the Burnley and Pendle Rugby League season comes to a close they can be pleased at their performance throughout the season.
The team has pulled off some marvelous wins and gained in experience throughout.
It looks more than likely that the Burnley and Pendle team, who is in its infancy, will gain more and more in strength in the coming years.
