Colne’s Olympic bronze medallist Steven Burke last week became the new British Pursuit champion at Manchester Velodrome.

This is the discipline in which he won bronze in Beijing in 2008, though he is likely to ride in the team event come London 2012.

One of the few Olympic stars at the championships on day one of the British Championships, Burke easily won the Men’s Open Pursuit from Under 23 Sam Harrison, with Junior, Jon Dibben one of the surprises of the night with third.

Burke produced a strong performance as he caught GB Team Pursuit teammate Harrison, in an impressive time of 3.59.758, to claim the national champion’s jersey.

Dibben, fresh from a strong season on the road, beat Doug Dewey for the bronze medal.
