Trawden Athletic Club youngsters braved the mud and cold to win medals and county places at the Lancashire Cross Country Championships at Witton Park in Blackburn.
The heavy rainfall meant the course was muddier than usual but it didn’t put off some of the county’s best runners.
The junior girls’ team of Amelia Dugdale, Abigail Stratton, Paige Singleton and Ellie Singleton brought home the bronze team medal in the Under 11s.
In the Under 13s’ race, Sophie Stanworth tackled ‘the saucer’ hill and stormed to seventh place, receiving a selection letter as first reserve for the county team at the National Championships in March.
Trawden’s junior coach Christina Singleton said: “I’m so proud of these girls to achieve what they have in such a short space of time.
“The junior section of the club has only been established for just over a year and they have come so far.”
Trawden AC juniors have training sessions throughout the week for children of primary school age upwards.
