Pendle Athletic Club came away with two medals from the English Schools’ Track and Field Championships at the Gateshead International Stadium at the weekend.
Leah Hillman, in the Senior Girls’ Javelin, landed herself a 41.11m personal best with her first throw, which earned her a further three throws.
And she took full advantage, as she increased her PB to an incredible 41.26m – which earned her the Championship silver medal.
Joe Lonsdale, having qualified for the finals of the Intermediate Boys’ 200m by coming second on the Friday in his heat, went on to finish in third place, taking a well-earned Championship bronze medal, in what can only be described as one outstanding race against an extremely fast, talented field of sprinters.
A fantastic weekend was had by all four members of Pendle Athletic Club, with Alex Baker and Tiarnan Crorken also in action for the club.
Alex in the U15 Girls’ Javelin, in her first appearance time at the English Schools’, had some great throws, but unfortunately didn’t make the final eight out of her field of 22 competitors, but enjoyed the experience and was totally inspired to try and qualify again next year.
Tiarnan had a brilliant run in the 1,500m but unfortunately didn’t make the finals.
