Four golfers have raised more than £800 for Macmillan Cancer Support following a 72-hole challenge.

John Ratcliffe, James Jennings, Nicholas Alderson and Philip “Rocket” Lee drove, chipped and putted their way around Nelson Golf Club in the name of charity.

The sponsors for the day were Standel Dawman Ltd, who provided four electric golf trolleys, Nelson Golf Club and TextStyles, who provided T-shirts.

Meanwhile, the Centenary Trophy was played on a perfect day at Nelson and won on a card play-off by Vena Eastwood (94-21-73) from Pauline Burrows, with Janet Thompson (102-28-74) third.

The previous week Mr Captain’s Prizes were won by Stella Newton (0-20 handicap), Janet Thompson (21-28) and Jean Payne (29+).

In the area events, congratulations go to partners Pauline Burrows/Sandra Eardley and Lynne Grandfield/Pam Pickles who have both qualified for the Scott Leggatt final to be played at Formby Ladies on July 14th.

The Nelson Ladies team came joint seventh with Colne in the Scratch and Worsley Trophy at Breightmet Golf Club.
