Ghyll GC juniors retain Summer League title

Ghyll Juniors have won the Leader-Times Pendle Junior Summer Golf League for the second year running.

The league is contested and played at Nelson Golf Club, Burnley Golf Club, Marsden Park Golf Club and Ghyll Golf Club over the summer months.

And Ghyll won with a total of 696 points, with Nelson in second place with 564 points.

At Colne Golf Club, the WJ Harrison Trophy was contested recently.

Winner was Dan Norris with a 90-25-65, one shot clear of Paul Kavanagh (80-14-66). Jason Spain (87-20-67) was third.

The gross prize went to David Cockell.

Blustery conditions proved to be a big factor in the scores in the EWGA medal at Colne, with Eva Pinder’s winning score of 94-19-75 three shots over par.

Jennifer Sims took second place with a score of 107-29-78, one shot ahead of Anne Black’s 90-11-79.

Members at Marsden Park Golf Club competed for the 6th Medal.

In the 0-13 category, Paul Timberlake’s winning score of 79-6-67 beat Steve Shepherd (81-12-69) into second place.

Wesley Kellows’ (83-17-66) beat Craig Watson’s 83-15-68 in the 14-18 category.

Ashley Alderson won the 19-28 category with a score of 91-24-67, with Don McCombe taking second place, one shot behind.

Julie Alderson won the ladies’ medal with a level par score of 95-24-71, ahead of Janet Kelly’s 89-15-74.

Last Thursday, the Ladies of Nelson Golf Club participated in the Joyce Crabtree Trophy.

This was won by Linda Smith, after a count back, with a 97-26-71.

The Nine-Hole competition was won by Pat Oldroyd.
