GHYLL’S head greenkeeper David Pinder and his assistant Jonothan McGeachie won the North East Region Northern Matchplay Golf Champioship final at Cleveland Golf Club to qualify for the finals at the Arcos Garden Golf Club, Cadiz, Spain.
Another Ghyll pairing, Stephen Greenwood and Iain Clarkson hope to join them as they won their match to reach the Yorkshire region finals.
At the weekend, in-form David Pinder (82-18-64) won the K. Bateson Memorial Trophy.
Division One winner was Elliot Platt (74-11-65), Division Two went to Iain Clarkson (83-15-68), and Division Three was won by Lee Drake (90-19-71).
In the Junior Alan Turner Memorial Trophy, James Lanless with 46 points won his first competition, with Jack Cheetham second with 38 points.
On Sunday, Ghyll golfers competed for the Proctor Bowl, and in having the worst of the weather in the afternoon, local vet Graham Tibbot shot a 78-11-67 to take the trophy.
Division One winner was Martin Robinson (70-2-68), Division Two, Ian Magill (79-10-69) and Division Three, John Ensby (88-18-70).
• AT Marsden Park, Saturday’s weather caused the Presidents Day to be abandoned.
The competition has been re-scheduled for September 8th.
• THE Nelson Gents’ August Medal was won by C. Wright (79-15-64).
The 0-5 division went to M. Arnold (72-5-67) on a card play-off.
The 6-12 division was won by M. Harrison (78-9-69), the 13-21 category went to M. Smith (89-20-69) after cards, and the 22-28 division saw M. Howarth come out on top (91-22-69).
Best gross was C. Ellis’ 69, after a card play-off.
President’s Day was won by B. Short (67-4-63).
The 0-12 division was won by M. Phelan (76-12-64), and the 13-28 division G. Friar (77-13-64).
Best gross was N. Uttley’s 68.
The President’s Mixed competition was won by J. and A. Kendra and B. and C. Irlam with 71 points, after cards from P. and L. Hepworth and V. and M. Pickles.
