Olivia Bythell, a student at Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form, has taken part in a national hockey tournament.

Olivia, a former pupil of Fisher More RC High School, arrived at the college from a sporting background.

She has played hockey for numerous years as part of the Pendle Forest Hockey Club.

The 17-year-old A-Level student was recently nominated for – and placed second in – the Rising Stars category at the Pendle Sports Awards.

Alongside this busy sporting schedule, Olivia was training for an important hockey tournament in Manchester: the Sainsbury’s 2014 School Games.

During the tournament Olivia participated in the England White Girls team, winning 3-1 against Wales, but unfortunately losing to Ulster. The England White then narrowly missed out on a bronze medal to England Blue.

Olivia has managed to strike the perfect balance between her sporting and academic ambitions. Her AS Level results proved just how hard she has worked; she achieved a wonderful A grade in Physical Education, and Bs in biology, geography and photography.
