Barnoldswick rider Amy Gornall gained some invaluable experience competing in the Holme Valley two day event.

Riding for RST women’s race team, Amy who is still a junior, was up against Wiggle Honda’s Olympic and World champions Laura Trott and Joanne Rowsell as well as their team mate Elinor Barker, a former junior World Champion.

Stage 1 was a 24-mile road race on an undulating course above Huddersfield and the Wiggle girls proved too strong for the rest of the field taking the first three places 1min 30secs ahead of the next group containing Amy who rode strongly to finish in 10th place which was considerably smaller than the original 41 starters.

Stage 2 was a nine-mile time trial starting and finishing near the HQ at Birds Edge Football Club above Huddersfield this was once again a 1-2-3 for the Wiggle girls with the fastest being Joanne Rowsell in 20mins and 50secs. Amy finished in 12th place in 23mins and 21 secs.

Stage 3, a 32-mile road race, again in the rain, was won by Laura Trott. Amy once again rode strongly to finish in 10th place.

After the three stages Amy finished 10th on General Classification with overall winner being Joanne Rowsell Wiggle Honda.

Amy’s teamates Abby-Mae Parkinson and Lauren O’Brien finished 7th and 20th, a great showing by the juniors.
