Pendle Athletic Club’s Leah Hillman came away with a bronze medal in the intermediate girls’ javelin at the English Schools’ Chamionships in Birmingham last Friday.
Leah finished third with a throw of 41.95m, which improved her personal best and earned her bronze behind runner-upb Laurie Dawkins of Somerset, also with a PB of 43.00m, and gold medalist Emma Hamplett with a throw of 52.21m.
All three of the girls gained the national standard, which was set at 40.00m
Meanwhile, Joe Lonsdale, also from Pendle AC, made his English Schools’ debut in the 100 metres. The youngster ran it in 11.82 with his PB standing at 11.70.
Not only was Joe in the 100m, he was selected for the 4x100m relay.
The Lancashire team made it past the heats and into the junior boys final, but unfortunately, the boys didn’t successfully pass the baton on and they did not finish.
Overall, it was a great weekend at the fourth biggest athletics event in the world.
