Nelson boxer Atif Mushtaq is intent on using the rambunctious coliseum of Colne Muni to his advantage when he returns on April 11th.
The 26-year-old admits to succumbing to the pressure of making his home debut against veteran Carl Allen in December, but the ambitious welterweight refuses to freeze on his next outing.
“It’ll be my first outing of 2014 and I can’t wait for it,” said Mushtaq, who is coached by former pro Stuart McFadyen. “I was supposed to be fighting on a bill at the Reebok Stadium in February, but the opponent that had been lined up for me withdrew with a shoulder injury.”
Mushtaq, now sponsored by Deli Fusion, added: “I was a bit disappointed with my last performance at the Muni. Even though I won every round, I felt I should’ve won more comfortably and without getting hit as much. I just want to get back out and put a show on for my fans.
“The atmosphere last time was amazing. I let the nerves get the better of me though, but now that I’ve experienced it, I’ll be using the support as a positive and to my advantage.”
