Colne swimmers celebrate year of great success

ON Saturday, Colne ASC held their Annual Presentation and Disco at Nelson Cricket Club.

The presentation of the trophies to the winners of the Championship Gala events were made, of which, Alex Berry won five and Ashleigh Dibb and Jasmin Lahey won four each.

The Two Alberts Trophy for Services to the Club had been presented to Lucy Cowgill on the previous Thursday at the Club’s Christmas Sprint Gala as she could not make the presentation. Lucy was presented the trophy for her efforts in making sure that the Club’s Centenary Celebrations ran smoothly, as well as help with the car boot, galas and teaching. She also carried the Olympic Torch up Manchester Road, Burnley back in June as part of the Olympic Torch Relay.

The John Dobbin Memorial Trophy was awarded to Aidan Dibb, who had shown courage over the past 12 months from being afraid to get in the large pool to being one of the first ones in.

The Bramhill Memorial Trophy for achievement was awarded to Maisie Rebanks who had progressed very quicky from the small pool classes to the large in a matter of months.

The winners of the Betty Petty Style Trophy which was held in November were announced as Jasmin Lahey and Ben Havers-Strong.

The winner of the Spot-On award went to the person who got nearest to their submitted time. In first place was Morgan Hartley, who got within 0.07 of a second of his submitted time, with Abigail Harrison in second only 0.08 of a second off hers, and in third was Danielle Baxter who got within 0.11 of second.

The club captains for 2013 were announced as Alex Berry and Ashleigh Dibb, with the junior captains being Lewis McKenna and Molly Stevens.

The Christmas Sprint Gala was held last Thursday, and seven records were broken, with Jasmin Lahey and Jacob Talyforth getting three each and Nicole Baxter getting the other one.

The winners of each age group were: 7 and under - Georgia Taylforth and William Havers-Strong; 8 years - Olivia Taylor and Ben Wilson; 9 years - Jasmin Lahey and Jacob Taylforth; 10 years - Danielle Baxter and Zak Smith-Shelley; 11 years - Eleanor Root and Lewis McKenna; 12 years - Abigail Harrison and Gregan Baker; 13 years - Nicole Baxter and James Barker; 14 years - Stephanie Brooks; 15 years - Lewis Eley; 16 and over - Alex Berry; Parents/Teachers - Lucy Cowgill and Bob Whittaker.
