Presentation Day brings the curtain down on the season

Saturday saw the last competition of the season for the gents at Colne Golf Club, Presentation Day.

The competition was followed by a meal and the awarding of trophies to all the winners throughout the season.

The winner on the day was John Burgoyne, whose 80-15-65 won on the card from Bruce Lamb (78-13-65), with Anthony Ellis (83-15-68) third.

The gross prize winner was John Collantine.

At Ghyll on Sunday, the Order of Merit Play-Off was held, with the top golfers over the past year battling it out.

Jack Farnhill topped the pile with a nett 67 ahead of Colin Maud’s nett 69.

Third with a nett 70 was David Berry. Sean Grace and Derek Hartley also recorded a nett 70.

The ladies’ section played a fun flag competition, which was won by Anne Preston, who carried her flag as far as the 18th green, before she used up all her shots.

The previous Sunday saw the Daily Mail Foursomes.

First place, with a nett 66.8, went to Jim Warner and Ralph Lowther.

Second, with a nett 68, were Ivan Shackleton and Alex Russell, and third place with a nett 68.5 were Steve Mortimer Senior and Steve Mortimer Junior.

In terms of the Knockout results for the year, the L. Stocker Singles Trophy was won by Ian Clarkson, who also won the F. Whittaker Shield Doubles with Sheldon Pickles.

The Rabbits Knock Out was won by John Dawson.

Derek Hartley and Hilary Hardakerwon the Meldrum Shoe Mixed Knockout.

The Ladies Singles’ Knockout was won by Hilary Hardaker, and the Ladies’ Doubles Knockout was won by the pairing of Susan Tattersall and Patricia Wilkinson.
