Table toppers slip up

THERE was another defeat for table-topping Lamb A in Division One of the Nelson semi snooker league.

However, Brierfield Liberal’s inability to capitalise on that loss means the league leader’s still have a two point advantage. It was an in-form Dressers E side that sealed a 3-2 win against Lamb A with Paddy Bateman putting together a run of 47 while second place Liberal lost by the same result away to St Andrews C; Wayne Cotterill doing the damage for the hosts with a break of 45.

Lamb B move in to third place after a 3-2 home win over Paradise A and Worsthorne share third spot courtesy of a 3-2 away win over St Andrews A with the deciding frame going to Mark Nuttall as he out pointed Steve Greenwood. Alexandra came away from Poultry B with a 3-2 win while Old Band A managed a 3-2 home win over Poultry A for whom John Wright had a run of 35. Elsewhere, Phil Harrison was the only winner for Star C with a run of 29 as they were beaten 4-1 by a visiting Briercliffe side.

In Division Two Jonathan Bennett had a run of 41 for league leader’s White Lea Head who are keeping their promotion hopes high with a 4-1 away win over Old Band B. Brian Wolfenden had a run of 40 for Byerden House C who are clinging on to second place despite a 3-2 set back away to close neighbours Paradise B. Byerden B stay in third position with a 4-1 home win over Shorthomers B while Molly Rigby’s B are creeping up the table with a 3-2 home win over St Andrews B. Elsewhere Dressers D came good with a 4-1 away win over Liberal C and Carters A pulled off a 3-2 home win over David Street A to stay in mid-table.

And in Division Three Foulridge Social Club stay at the top with a three point lead despite losing 3-2 away to an improving Dressers B side but Molly Rigby’s A are chasing hard in second place and managed a 4-1 home win over Shorthomers C for whom Nick Shaw had a run of 30, while Brian Large had a break of 35 for the home side.

Richard Hindle cleared up the colours with a run of 27 for Nelson Poultry D who came away from Shorthomers D with a 3-2 win, while Tony Ashworth had a run of 40 for Old Band C in their 3-2 away win over David Street B. Star D pulled off a 3-2 home win over Lamb C and down at Church Street veteran Clive Snaith stole the deciding frame for Lamb D from Dressers Mick Stevens for a 3-2 win.

Please note Star C in Division One will play all future home games at David Street club in Barrowford and Star D in Division Three will play all future home games at the Carters and Motormen’s club.
