Trawden’s Mike Hartley has been selected for the England clay pigeon shooting team for forthcoming internationals in Ireland and France.
Mike, a local driving instructor, has recently rediscovered the sport having first taken it up in his early 20s.
He admits he is “taking it a bit more seriously now”, and earned his England call up having come through the qualifying process over the last few months.
Firstly, he performed superbly at the North Region ESK Selection shoot in Rufforth, near York in March.
There he shot 293 and 298 out of 300, and he backed that up with a similarly consistent shoot in Newcastle for the Dougall Memorial and English Open in June, firing scores of 293 and 289.
Today he is one of eight new caps for the 2013 DTL Home Countries International Tournament in Ireland, at Esker Shooting Grounds, before lining up in the veterans’ section in the DTL 2013 European Team Tournament in France next month.
Mike would like to thank shooting instructors Nigel Hirst and Nigel Wild at Coniston Shooting Ground.
