Colne swimmer Karen is star in Sheffield
OVER the bank holiday weekend, three members of the Colne ASC Masters team travelled to Sheffield for the British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.
The star performer was Karen Driver, who was swimming in the 40 to 44 years age group.
She started off winning the 1,500m Freestyle event in a new long course personal best time.
The was followed by another gold in the 400m Freestyle event, and she rounded off the weekend with her third gold of the meet in the 800m Freestyle.
In between these events, she also picked up a bronze medal for the 200m Freestyle.
Stephen Smith, swimming in the 40 to 44 years age group finished up with a silver in the 100m Butterfly, this was after a disappointing seventh place in the 100m Freestyle and slightly better fourth place in the 50m Freestyle.
Philip Croxall, also swimming in the 40 to 44 years age group, picked up two bronze medals in the 200m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley events, with further fourth place finishes in the 50m Breaststroke and 400m Freestyle events, and fifth places in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke events.
