Grant for Seedhill track

THE hammer circle where Olympic finalist Sophie Hitchon honed her skills is to be revamped as part of the London 2012 legacy.

The UK record holder started her athletics career at Pendle AC, and now Pendle Leisure Trust have won a £50,000 grant from the Sport England Lottery to go towards replacing the track at Seedhill and renewing the hammer and discus circle.

The track has for some years been in a state of disrepair and is in need of resurfacing and upgrading to continue the development of athletics, as well as the wide range of activities delivered on the site.

Replacement of running track surface and hammer and discus circle is expected to be £140,400, and at least half the cost has been met.
