James Waddington close to record
James Waddington recorded the second highest ever break in the Nelson and District Semi-Snooker League’s history with a 126 - and narrowly missed out on a total clearance as he missed the last black ball.
Team mate Shaun Greenall also had a break of 67 as Lamb B went joint top of the First Division with a 4-1 home win over Liberal A, for whom Larry Shaw was their only winner.
Up at the Gravel Wayne Cotterill had a break of 83 for St Andrew’s, and at 2-2, Paul Averill knocked in a run of 52 to take the deciding frame from Poultry’s Chris Jordan and keep them joint top.
John Titherington made a brilliant clearance in the deciding frame for Lamb A, who remain in third place after a 3-2 away win over Briercliffe, while Keith Nyari had a run of 40 and Tony Greenwood a run of 47 for Worsthorne, who ended up 4-1 home winners over Alexandra.
Elsewhere Andy Dibb was Old Band’s only winner as he outpointed Poultry B’s Chris Mount in their 4-1 away win at Lonsdale Street, while Dressers E found some form and pulled off a 3-2 home win over Paradise A.
In the Second Division, White Lea Head have a two-point lead at the top after a 3-2 home win over Carters A, who drop to joint second place with Paradise B, who ended up 4-1 home winners over Shorthomers B, for whom Rod Williams was their only winner with a run of 45.
Old Band B drop to fourth place after a shock 5-0 defeat away to an in-form Byerden House, while Nelson Golf Club were back to winning ways with a 4-1 home win over David Street A.
Elsewhere there were 3-2 home wins for Liberal C and St Andrew’s B against Molly’s B and Dressers D respectively.
Burnley Miners remain in pole position in the Third Division despite an open date.
Old Band C lie in second place, but had to work for their two points down at Church Street, where Lamb D pulled off a 3-2 home win, with Paul Kelly having a run of 38 against Peter Dawson, and Mick Hudson taking the deciding frame from Brian Riley.
Kevin Ellerton had a break of 43 for Shorthomers D in their 3-2 home win over Lamb C, while Shorthomers C gained a 4-1 away win over David Street to keep them in fourth place.
Stuart Smith put in a break of 53 for Foulridge, who ran out 4-1 home winners over Nelson Poultry D, and Carters D came away from Dressers C with a 4-1 result, while Molly Rigby’s pulled off a 3-2 home win over Dressers B.
