Renegades hit four to progress
PENDLE Renegades went into their league cup first round fixture against Barnoldswick Barons with five wins out of six – and there was never any doubt it would become six.
The first 15 minutes though saw the visitors start the brighter with Paul Garner in the Renegades goal saving a one on one from Oliver Scott.
Renegades then came to life, got their foot in the game and controlled it forcing no fewer than seven first half corners,
The deadlock was eventually broken on the half-hour mark by Scott Myers. Kyle Crawforth provided the ball into the box and the Barons stopper produced a reflex save only for Myers to pounce on the rebound and smash it into the roof of the net.
Just after the break top scorer Matt Nutter robbed the Barons centre half in possession just inside his own box and by the striker’s own admission should have done better but put the effort to close to the keeper who managed to parry the ball to safety.
Ten minutes later though Nutter made up for his miss by controlling strike partner Myers’ ball inside the area with his back to goal, spun and finished from seven yards into the far corner and doubled the lead.
Man-of-the-match Nutter then turned provider for the outstanding George Skocki as he split the defence with a pass and Skocki, as cool as you like, placed his effort in off the left hand post to give the keeper no chance.
With five minutes to go Kyle Crawforth made it 4-0 when a neat Antony Reedy overlap saw him deliver a near post cross and up rose Crawforth unmarked to guide his header into the far corner.
Saturday sees the first team travel to Trawden Celtic in the Northern Plant Hire Trophy, 1-30 p.m. kick-off.
Renegades Reserves ran out easy 10-1 winners against Barnoldswick Barons thirds.
Alex Collett struck a hat-trick with further goals from Dale Robinson (two) Scott Walling (two) Chris Batley, Mathew King and Zac Beckwith.
Mark Robinson was asked to fill in at centre back and grabbed the man-of-the-match award for his efforts., Paul Crabtree grabbed a consolation goal and man-of-the match for the visitors went to Ricky DiVito.
Saturday sees the reserves on their travels to table toppers Crosshills FC reserves, 2 p.m. kick-off.
