Blessed Trinity striker Tiggi Gent has signed for Manchester United '“ just one of two girls who came through tough trials at Under 16 level.

Tiggi was offered a contract Blackburn Rovers for Under 16s but Manchester United started a ladies team and Tiggi decided to give it a go.

Tiggi, 14, took part in a tough trial in Manchester, and, out of more than 100 girls at Under 16 level, just two were offered a one-year contract.

“It’s brilliant,” said Tiggi, who used to play for Burnley girls, and has also played for Lancashire Under 14s.

“I will train three times a week and play at a high level.

“I want to play in the FA Women’s Super League and my aim is to play for England.”

Tiggi was a hat-trick hero last season as Lancashire Under 14 girls won the Playstation Schools’ Cup with a 4-0 win over Kent at Stoke City’s bet365 Stadium in the Girls’ Under 14 Inter-County Cup Final.

She also scored the winning goal in the semi-final against the West Midlands to take Lancashire through.
