Colne are caught on the hop

COLNE’S second team travelled the short distance to Preston hoping to get back into winning ways.

From the start Colne started brightly keeping the Hoppers defence working very hard to keep the All Blacks at bay but it wasn’t long before the pressure told and Colne were awarded a penalty just on the 22 metre line.

Hugo Leaver stepped up and slotted home to give Colne a 3-0 lead.

Hoppers then started to take the game to Colne and duly scored a well worked try. The conversion was kicked making it 7-3 to Hoppers. Just before half-time Colne were awarded another penalty well inside the Hoppers 22 metre line and again Leaver stepped up and kicked the penalty to leave the score 7-6 at the break.

The second half saw Colne again putting immense pressure on the Hoppers defensive line but just like in the first half the Hoppers started to come more and more into the game and scored another try and conversion to make it 14 - 6.

A bad refereeing decision gave Hoppers a penalty deep inside the 22 and the the kick sailed over again to leave the score 17 - 6. Colne began to attack with vigour and Jack Handforth was unlucky when he raced down the line to score only to find he had put a foot in touch.

Towards the end of the game Hoppers won a ruck ball, the scrum half passed the ball to the stand off who kicked a very difficult drop goal to leave the score 20 - 6 at the final whistle.
