Nelson and Colne both made impressive starts as the Lancashire League Moorhouse’s T20 competition swung into action at the weekend.
Playing in the Pride of Penlde Group, Colne beat Haslingden by six runs in a nail biter at Bentgate.
Professional Thomas Kaber made 27 in Colne’s 109-5 and then skipper Matt Walker took 3-20 and Joel Duerden 2-14 to restrict Haslingden to 103. Alex Jeffrey made 26 and Jordan Shannon an unbeaten 24.
In the same group. Nelson beat Bacup by 41 runs at Lanehead.
Russ Bradley made 56 from 42 balls with four fours and a six while man of the match Harrison Phelan hit an impressive 56 from just 29 balls with five fours in Nelson’s 168-3.
Henry Butcher made 27 and professional Haseeb Azam 24 but Nelson’s eight man bowling attack restricted Bacup to 127-9.
Khurram Nazir was the pick, taking 3-13.
This Friday Colne are home to Bacup while Nelson take on Burnley at Seedhill.
